ED is a prevalent condition affecting men worldwide and is commonly referred to as impotence. This condition is characterised by the consistent inability to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for satisfactory sexual intercourse.

An erection occurs when blood vessels in the penis dilate, increasing blood flow into the erectile tissues. This causes the penis to become firm. Simultaneously, the veins that typically drain blood from the area constrict, allowing the blood to remain trapped and maintain the erection. When this delicate balance is disrupted—whether due to vascular, hormonal, or psychological reasons—erectile dysfunction (ED) can result.

Physiological Factors 

ED often stems from physical conditions affecting blood flow or nerve function. Hypertension, cardiovascular issues, or injury can disrupt circulation or muscle control, making it difficult to achieve or maintain an erection. Addressing these root causes is key to effective, lasting treatment.

Hormonal Factors
Hormonal imbalances, especially low testosterone, can lead to reduced libido and difficulty maintaining erections, impacting overall sexual performance.

Psychological Factors
Mental health concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, PTSD, or relationship problems can cause performance anxiety and inhibit arousal, affecting erectile function.

Diagnostic Tests for ED

At Menhance Clinic, we offer the following diagnostic services:

• Ultrasound Screening: A non-invasive test to assess blood flow and circulation in the penis, helping identify vascular issues that may impact erectile function.

   

• Alprostadil injection: used in more severe ED cases to assess vascular function. By inducing an erection, it helps determine if the cause is physical or psychological, guiding further treatment options.

• ABI Test (Ankle-Brachial Index): Measures blood pressure in the arms and ankles to detect circulation issues like peripheral artery disease, which can contribute to erectile dysfunction.

• Hormonal Screening: Includes Testosterone levels, PSA levels, Haematocrit levels, and a Complete Blood Count (CBC).
